Best Places To Find Free
Moving Boxes.

My favourite part when moving house is sourcing out free boxes. You see, the use of free moving boxes could significantly reduce your moving costs.

And the amazing part is, it's not hard at all to find very suitable and sturdy free boxes for moving, especially when you know the right places to look for them.

The many moves I've done over the years has given me enough knowledge and experience to easily find the kind of boxes I need without so much hassle.

This page will show you places where anyone on a small budget can get free boxes for moving house.

However, if you feel or think that searching for free removal boxes isn't for you, then there are other alternatives you can still explore on this website. Buying cheap moving boxes or discount packing supplies could be an option you may consider.

Although I doubt if anyone wouldn't like the idea or benefit of cost cutting during their house move. Think about the money you could save just by using removal boxes for free.

Now before I reveal my sources to you, I'd like to clarify few misconceptions regarding the myth surrounding free boxes for moving house.

Many people may argue that because they are free, most cardboard boxes will not be of good quality, as beggars can't be choosers.

Wrong. You can select suitable boxes and leave the rest if you think they can't do the task it's meant to carry out.

How about being given a dirty, greasy or smelly box?

No free box will be force on to you to take. So only choose the ones that are suitable for your particular need.

The size of the boxes wouldn't match each other because they are from different source.

That might be true but what does it have to do with putting your stuff in it? For as long as the boxes you select are sturdy enough to hold your belonging during transit to your new place. Besides, you need different box sizes for various items you owned. Remember your household items are in different forms, shapes and sizes as well.

I am too shy to ask for free removal boxes in case people think I'm cheap.

You are not being cheap. On the contrary, you are a wise person. Why spend your hard earned cash on stuff that you could get for free? There are so many places you can get free boxes from. In fact, its amazing how so many people are willingly giving it away for nothing.

Can I find all the free cardboard boxes for moving house I need in a day?

You sure can, but only if you need few boxes. It takes a lot of planning to gather all the cardboard boxes you will need for the average two bedroom house move. Start looking for moving boxes at least four weeks before your move date. This will give you enough time to organised well and have everything in place for the move.

Now, here are my favourite 9 places to get free boxes for moving and cut cost.

These days free moving boxes are available in many locations. Some of the best places many people get their boxes from are as follows:

1. Family and friends

Start by asking your friends, family and neighbours. It's a simple way to get free moving boxes but often overlooked by many people. Some of them might have just moved houses or knew someone who did, and may want to get rid of their used cardboard boxes.

2. Provision Shops
Local shops and supermarkets are good places where anybody can pick up used moving boxes. Most off licenses shops puts them outside for the rubbish collectors to pick and, anybody can help themselves.

3. Hardware and Electronic goods stores
Including those that sell large items such as computers, Television sets, Stereos, Microwaves or Furniture.

4. From Your office or work place

Ask the IT department or someone who orders the office supplies. Most computer parts and equipments come in very strong boxes which you can later collect from the IT section. The office store room can be a good place to check as well.

5. Bookstores
Believe it or not, you can find sturdy boxes to pack your collection of books from a book store. Know their delivery hours and speak to staff to save you some boxes for collection later.

6. Fast Food Restaurants
Burger king's, McDonald's and KFC's fry boxes. Yes, you may be surprised but I found these fry boxes ideal and very suitable to use for a house move. The chips are usually sealed and frozen in a plastic bag, you hardly see any grease on the cardboard. Imagine the amount of chips they sell every day? Unless someone beats you to it, you could get a lot of the moving boxes for free from them.

7. Clothes stores
Places like Next, Primark, TK Maxx, and Dorothy Perkins are some of the high street retail clothes stores you can check. Don't forget to check with whole sale shops as well because there are always cartons they have to throw away in these places. New stocks are put on display usually after the store closes; make sure you ask a member of staff to keep some boxes for you if possible.

8. Starbucks or any coffee shop
Can offer you medium cartons where their coffee beans comes from. Large boxes where the different cup sizes or coffee containers are packaged can also be suitable to use for your move.

The places I mentioned above will always have boxes they no longer need. Request for it politely from a member of staff and they will be happy to give you or ask you to return at a time when they are getting rid of their packing boxes.

You can save money and the environment by re-using these unwanted boxes for your house moves.

9. Online Social Networking sites
Register with Freecycle local groups. Search the offers or post your request under 'Wanted' and patiently wait for someone to respond. Craigslist.org is also a great site to check for free moving boxes in your area. Use Facebook and Twitter, what are friends for? Post an update to ask friends for free moving boxes you can use for your packing.

Be aware, most of these free boxes will most likely be collapsed/flatten, so you may need to invest a little on durable Packing Tapes first. Remember free moving cartons can go a long way when relocating.

So there you have it. Here are nine ways to get free moving boxes when moving house. If you have used or can think of other sources where someone can get or give away boxes towards their move, please feel free to suggest it in the form below.
